Tomorrow’s Climate Scientists

An extension to the Partnership Grants scheme, this programme funds schools specifically researching climate change and biodiversity topics. The programme aims to give students, not just a voice, but an opportunity to take action themselves to address climate and biodiversity issues. To help teachers and STEM partners with the application, free online introduction sessions and drop in applicant support sessions are being run.

Tomorrow’s Climate Scientists is an extension to the Royal Society's school funding scheme Partnership Grants

Schools can apply for grants of up to £3,000 to run investigative STEM projects in partnership with STEM professionals from academia or industry. The programme provides an opportunity for students to have a voice in the direction of scientific research around climate change and biodiversity by working with their STEM partner. It also supports students to develop green skills as the UK moves towards a net zero future.

Free online training sessions are run for teachers, aimed to give attendees a better understanding of the Partnership Grants scheme, including Tomorrow’s climate scientists, and application process. To book a session of your choice please click here

If you have any questions about the Tomorrow's climate scientists programme or would like to get involved, please contact the Schools Engagement team via education@royalsociety.org or 0207 451 2531.

Eligibility

Eligibility for Tomorrow’s Climate Scientists is the same as the main Partnership Grant scheme, with the addition that the projects undertaken must be investigating a topic that links to climate change and biodiversity to be considered as part of the Tomorrow’s Climate Scientists programme.

Visit the Partnership Grants eligibility and judging criteria page for more details.

Application process

Applications for the Tomorrow's climate scientists programme are completed through the main Partnership Grants application form via the online system Flexi-Grant®. The application round will open in February and remain open across the year with three possible submission deadlines at the end of April, June, and November.

Visit the Partnership Grants application process page for more details.

Case studies

You can find examples of Tomorrow’s Climate Scientist projects within the Partnership Grant case studies pages, especially highlighted in our video case studies and our projects online and in the press

The interactive map below shows details of Tomorrows climate scientist projects funded in the past 3 years. The different colours on the map show the different school age levels: light blue are primary level projects, yellow are secondary level projects, orange are all through schools, and green are post 16/FE colleges. Whilst the map shows the different school levels, projects can be adapted for different age groups.
