Online engagement

This half-day online interactive workshop will help you to explore how to take your engagement online. This course is for Royal Society grant recipients with some public engagement experience who want to learn more about sharing their research with the public and designing high-quality online public engagement activities. About the course

As our projects move online we need to adapt our engagement practices, tools and processes. Through this interactive session you will explore how to take your engagement online. Discover how to find and connect with your audience and create an experience that goes beyond the average Teams meeting or Zoom quiz. The session will use a mix of online tools, group discussion and presentation allowing you to explore and experience a range of online engagement. 

Who is it for?

This course is designed for holders of University Research Fellowships, Dorothy Hodgkin Research Fellowships, Sir Henry Dale Fellowships, Newton International Fellowships, and Industry Fellowships. You must be a Royal Society grant recipient to be eligible to attend this course. 

What will you learn?

Following this workshop, you should be able to:

  • know how to get the most of your equipment at home
  • identify the dominant models of online engagement
  • have an understanding of different platforms and how to make the most of them
  • understand how to foster meaningful two-way dialogue online
  • plan appropriate online evaluation for your engagement
  • know how to make online events accessible, safe and ethical

Who is the tutor?

This course is delivered by Dr Jamie Gallagher, an award-winning engagement professional specialising in impact narratives and evaluation. Jamie has over 10 years of public engagement experience including as the central lead for Public Engagement at the University of Glasgow and an evaluation consultant on REF 2021 impact case studies. He has worked on improving the reach, profile and impact of research in almost every academic discipline.

How much does it cost?

The course fee and travel expenses are covered for Royal Society grant recipients, including the University Research Fellowship, Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship, Sir Henry Dale Fellowship, Newton International Fellowship and Industry Fellowship.
