There is very widespread recognition that many environmental problems cannot be addressed separately within the confines of individual disciplines. The Environment Committee of the Royal Society held a one-day conference in order to explore scientific, methodological and conceptual barriers to interdisciplinarity as well as the structural and funding barriers. The central theme of transport was selected to focus the meeting.
