In this response to the Nuffield Council on Bioethics Inquiry the Society notes that many of the issues raised in the scope of the study are of general ethical concern, and could be applied equally to diseases with a genetic component unrelated to mental health. The statement also covers the following points: regulation, material held in databases, genetic counselling for mental disorders, competence, disclosure of information, and implications of the use of genetic findings.
