01 December 1998

A report of a workshop convened on behalf of the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers, the British Library, Blackwell Science Ltd and the Royal Society. The report covers the structure and role of the mechanism by which information about progress and research findings in science, medicine, and technology is communicated by one scientist to another. It also considers the economics of this structure, likely future developments such as electronic publishing, and copyright and database legislation.
