Technical and research support staff form an important part of research teams, though they attract relatively little attention in discussions of research policy. The numbers and role of this group has changed dramatically over the last two decades. This statement summarises the key findings and recommendations of a longer report that documents these changes and makes recommendations about the future provision of technical support and their career development and training.
