The Future of Sites of Special Scientific Interest

Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is the term used to denote an area of land as being of special nature conservation interest in Great Britain. SSSIs form a nationally important series which is vital for conserving our natural heritage of wildlife habitats, geological features and landforms. This report reviews the scientific basis of the SSSI system and put this into the context of the drive towards attempting to conserve our natural heritage.
