The Department of Culture, Media and Sport consultation on 'Care of Historic Human Remains ' follows a report by its Working Group on Human Remains, published in November 2003. In our response we stress that the scientific value of historic human remains must be considered alongside the claims of communities requesting repatriation and that an appropriate balance must be struck between the rights of claimant communities and maintaining collections of human remains for the benefit of scientific research and the public who visit these collections.
