Human biological material in research

30 November 2004

In November 2004, the Royal Society made the following statement on its position on the use of human material in research. The Royal Society considers that the benefits arising from research using human biological material will continue to be essential for medical and scientific understanding and for the benefit of public health.  At the same time, the Society also recognises the importance of public support for this research.  The public have to be confident that the scientific work is carried out responsibly, and that all donated material is treated with sensitivity and respect.
