S&T Committee (Commons): Follow-up inquiry into the Research Assessment Exercise

The Society had responded a number of consultations on the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), links to which can be found below. This submission to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committees follow-up enquiry draws on these previous submissions and comments on the Higher Education Funding Councils proposals for the next RAE in 2008. Overall, the Society believes that the proposals are a significant step forward, but that further work needs to be done, particularly in testing out further changes that could be introduced to simplify the exercise after 2008.
