The Royal Society recently responded to the Natural Environment Research Council's (NERC) consultation on their statement of intent regarding the future of the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH). Our response raised concerns regarding the proposed changes, in particular the future of the core research and data collection programmes that contribute significantly to the UK's knowledge of the natural environment, environmental change and environmental change drivers. The important role of CEH in the collection and analysis of long-term environmental monitoring and datasets was emphasised.
