Royal Society President responds to the Prime Minister’s announcement on a new National Science and Technology Council

21 June 2021

Sir Adrian Smith, President of the Royal Society said, “The National Science and Technology Council and the Office for Science and Technology Strategy reinforce the place of research at the heart of government. Allied to the commitment to increase investment to £22 billion by 2025, this shows real belief in the ability of science and innovation to drive forward our economy and our society.

“The UK has always been a leader in science and that has really shone through during the pandemic. Our long term investment in discovery is the bedrock on which we can build new technologies that help us take on the big challenges such as fighting disease and tackling climate change. These new ideas and technologies will also help create jobs.

“We look forward to working with the government in the development of these new bodies.”
