Leading academics awarded Royal Society Yusuf Hamied Visiting Fellowships to develop scientific collaborations with India

The Royal Society has today announced the three senior grant holders who will visit India as part of the Royal Society Yusuf Hamied Visiting Fellowships. The programme, which launched in 2017 through a generous donation from the Yusuf and Farida Hamied Foundation, supports scientific collaboration by bringing the Indian and international scientific communities together to exchange ideas and expertise. 

The awardees are:

  • Dr Ben Warren, University of Keele
    Dr Ben Warren will be visiting the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur
  • Professor Elena Besley, University of Nottingham
    Professor Elena Besley will be visiting IIT Delhi; IIT Bombay; IIT Guwahati; BITS, Pilani; BITS Pilani, Goa campus
  • Professor Adekunle Adeyeye, Durham University
    Professor Adekunle Adeyeye will be visiting The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad

Dr Yusuf Hamied FRS said: “Significant scientific advances rely on strong collaboration and knowledge sharing between researchers and innovators. I am delighted that these talented scientists will be able to build long-term collaborations with their counterparts in India through the Royal Society Yusuf Hamied Visiting Fellowships. For the benefit of humanity, it is vital that we all use our knowledge to build on what we have learnt in the past and prepare for the challenges that lie ahead.”  

Scientists will spend up to 12 weeks visiting research teams in India and exchanging scientific expertise through lectures, seminars, and discussions. The programme provides scientists with the opportunity to build and develop partnerships with Indian researchers and institutions, enabling the exchange of knowledge with Indian scientific communities.
