Sir Mark Walport, Vice President and Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society, said: “Science and technology are central to helping us address some of the world’s biggest challenges. Climate change is threatening the ability of humanity to live well on the planet. It is driving population displacement, food and water insecurity, and the spread of infectious diseases. We encourage the G7 to continue to progress the integration of health within the global climate agenda. By considering health alongside climate mitigation strategies, we can simultaneously drive progress in both climate action and public health.

“AI and advanced technologies continue to revolutionise the way we live. Research is fundamental to developing applications for AI that benefit society, and for understanding and managing potential risks. The G7 has a role to play to ensure the benefits of AI for all. This includes addressing the ethical use of AI, equitable access, future directions and implications of AI, and supporting international collaboration.”
