'Arabic in Britain': the Royal Society, Arab and Islamic astronomy, and the Arabic language

By the Society's foundation in 1660, Britain had become the European centre for the study of Arabic, the key to unlocking the influx of knowledge from the Arab and Islamic world. This talk, with a focus on astronomy, will examine this interest in Arabic, highlighting the Arabic books and manuscripts in the Society's Library.
