Scientists Exhibition 2013
An exhibition of paintings and sculptures featuring some remarkable women.
About the exhibition
Have you ever wondered what the Royal Society’s home would look like if its walls were gender-reversed? If, instead of Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, portraits of Kathleen Lonsdale, Elsie Widdowson and Dorothy Hodgkin were the norm?
In this exhibition of art curated by Uta Frith FRS, we gather recent portraits of the greatest female Fellows of the Royal Society together with newly commissioned drawings featuring Royal Society Research Fellows and Rosalind Franklin prize-winners. The display uses portraits by artists Emma Wesley, Marcus Cornish, Garry Kennard, Graham Sutherland and others to celebrate just some of our leading women in science and asks the question – does it make a difference?
