Professor Alison Noble CBE FREng FRS

Alison Noble is the Technikos Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, part of the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. She is an inter-disciplinary researcher distinguished for her contributions to biomedical image analysis. 

Alison is an engineer, who’s research interests lie in combining knowledge of imaging and computational analysis in an innovative way to support decision-making in the clinic. Her research has advanced knowledge of how to automatically extract clinically useful information from medical ultrasound scans; in particular, her recent research has focused on developing machine-learning based solutions to a number of key problems in biomedical image analysis. She works closely with clinical researchers to demonstrate the potential value of the developed solutions in clinical practice. 

Alison also has an interest in the commercialization of scientific research as a pathway to realizing impact of academic research. She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (2008) and was awarded an OBE for services to science and engineering in 2013.
