Andy Samways is Director of Teaching School Hub and Research School at Unity Schools Partnership, a multi-academy trust with a family of schools in Suffolk/Cambridgeshire/NE London.
Teaching school hubs are designated school-led centres of excellence for teacher and leadership training and development. In his work leading Unity Teaching School Hub, Andy oversees the strategic and operational provision within and across the 180 schools of the area within Suffolk that they serve. High-quality evidence-based professional development is implemented for teachers at all stages of their careers especially early career teachers, aspiring and experienced leaders as well as those training to teach.
Leading one of the 39 Research Schools that make up the Education Endowment Foundation's Research Schools Network, Andy is involved in supporting partnership development which promotes the use of evidence to improve teaching practice. Through the network, they share what they know about putting research into practice, and support schools to make better use of evidence to inform their teaching and learning so that they really make a difference in the classroom.
Andy studied Geology at Durham University and qualified as a teacher of secondary science; his 28 years in teaching to date have seen him gain extensive experience of teaching in the comprehensive sector and whole school as well as system leadership. A Founding Member of the Chartered College of Teaching, Andy is the organiser of researchED Ipswich and is a member of the Royal Society Partnership Grants Allocating Panel.
