Clare Moody has an extensive understanding of politics, political campaigning and policy development in both the EU and the UK, having been an MEP until July 2019 and worked in No 10, Downing Street previously. She is currently Political Director of Grayling, a Brussels based consultancy.
As an MEP Clare specialised in Industrial Strategy and Research and Innovation. She has a deep understanding of the political environment of the European Union in general. She was Vice Chair of the Security and Defence Committee, on the Industry, Research and Energy Committee, where she focussed on developing the Horizon 2020 programme and negotiating the future Horizon Europe programme. She also worked on the Gender Equality Committee, focusing on gender budgeting. As part of her Foreign Affairs work Clare was an active member of Euronest, the European Parliament’s Eastern Partnership engagement.
Clare has a detailed knowledge of the politics and the processes of Brexit on both sides of the Channel. She has spoken at numerous conferences and been involved in advising several organisations. She has worked with the Wellcome Trust and the think tank Bruegel on developing a future Science Agreement between the UK and the EU.
Clare worked as Assistant Political Secretary for Gordon Brown in No 10 from 2008 to 2010, where she was responsible for stakeholder management, strategic planning and complex negotiations. Her role involved predicting, managing and resolving political issues and crises.
Clare has twenty years of experience as a trade union official, including national negotiating and political roles.
