Richard J. Samworth is Professor of Statistical Science and Director of the Statistical Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. His main research interests are in high-dimensional and nonparametric statistics: he has developed methods and theory for shape-constrained inference, data perturbation techniques (subsampling, the bootstrap, random projections, knockoffs), changepoint estimation and classification.
Richard recently received a European Research Council Advanced Grant, having previously held an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council fellowship. He has received the COPSS Presidents' Award, the Adams prize, a Philip Leverhulme Prize, the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) Guy Medal in Bronze and the RSS Research Prize. He gave an Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) Medallion lecture, is an elected fellow of the American Statistical Association and the IMS, and currently serves as co-editor (with Ming Yuan) of the Annals of Statistics.
