Dr Stefaan Verbruggen is a Lecturer in Medical Technology at the Centre for Predictive in vitro Models at Queen Mary University of London, where his research focuses on the mechanobiology of bone cells, and developing non-animal models of cancer metastasis. As an Academic Fellow of the Digital Environment Research Institute (DERI) at QMUL and Visiting Academic at the INSIGNEO Institute of in silico Medicine at the University of Sheffield, his lab also builds predictive computational models of the biomechanics of bone in development and ageing.
Dr Verbruggen is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), has been elected to the Peer Review College of the EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council), and is also an Expert Reviewer for Horizon Europe programmes. He frequently volunteers in mentoring roles, teaching Engineering Masterclasses at the Royal Institution and as a lecturer for the Bone Research Society’s “Bone Biology” clinical residential course, and is an active member of several national and international societies, including BioMedEng UK, the Orthopaedic Research Society, and the European Society of Biomechanics.
