Andrew Miller was formerly the MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston between 1992 and 2015. He began his career as a geology technician at Portsmouth Polytechnic. He then moved into industrial relations as an official for the Association of Scientific Technical and Managerial Staffs, where he represented many scientists and engineers.
Mr Miller chaired the Science and Technology Select Committee between 2010 and 2015, and was Chair of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee and a Member of the Liaison Committee. The Science Council recognised him as “one of the UK’s 100 leading practising scientists” and in November 2014 he was awarded an honorary DSc by the University of Chester. In 2015 he was awarded an honorary fellowship by Liverpool John Moore’s University
Continuing his interests in science policy he chairs the University of Chester Thornton Science Park Advisory Board and an Advisory Board for the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures at Sheffield University. He is also an Executive Board member of the UK Research Integrity Office and a trustee of Newton’s Apple.
