Andy Samways is Director of Unity Research School, one of the 22 schools making up the Research Schools Network, a collaboration between the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and the Institute for Effective Education (IEE) to create a network of schools that supports the use of evidence to improve teaching practice.
Research Schools act as regional hubs for the Research Schools Network. Through the network, they share what they know about putting research into practice, and support schools to make better use of evidence to inform their teaching and learning so that they really make a difference in the classroom.
Andy studied Geology at Durham University and qualified as a teacher of secondary science; his 25 years in teaching to date have seen him gain extensive experience of teaching in the comprehensive sector and whole school as well as system leadership. A Founding Member of the Chartered College of Teaching, Andy sits on the executive team at Unity Schools Partnership (a multi-academy trust with a family of schools in Suffolk/Cambridgeshire/NE London), an Expert Adviser for the Teacher Development Trust and the Suffolk Local Lead for the Teaching School Council. In November 2018 he organised researchED Ipswich, the first to take place in the east of England, and is now busy planning for the second in November 2019! Andy’s work is increasingly encouraging effective collaboration and partnership working within evidence-based school improvement activity.
