Research summary

Current research is developing a small pilot facility with all the processing steps for a biorefinery, but an essential step is the low energy collection of the biomass -- harvesting, dewatering and solids handling of the microalgae. The main objective of the research project is the defouling and cleaning of the filters using energy efficient microbubbles. Since 25-35% of the energy of a conventional microalgae processing plant goes on this step, reduction is essential for sustainable processing.
