Daniel Rueckert is Alexander von Humboldt Professor for AI in Healthcare and Medicine at the Technical University of Munich and Professor of Visual Information Processing at Imperial College London. He conducts research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and their applications in medicine.
Daniel’s research focuses on the development of new AI approaches for radiology. He is developing new algorithms for image acquisition, image analysis and image interpretation. He is also working on methods that can be used for the early detection of disease as well as for computer-aided diagnosis and prognosis. At the same time, his research aims to make AI algorithms explainable, transparent and privacy-preserving.
Daniel is a co-founder of IXICO PLC and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (2015), a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (2019) and a Member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina (2023). He is a recipient of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize (2025), which is the most important German academic research prize.
