John is the Professor of Biophysics and Director of the Biophysical Sciences Institute at Durham University. John originally worked in industry being involved with the commercial development of air impulse tonometers, for measuring the pressure in the eye, and diode laser photocoagulators. He then returned to academia initially at the Institute of Photonics at Strathclyde University and subsequently moving to Durham. His research interests are in developing optical instrumentation for the life sciences with a strong focus on advance optical microscopy methods.
