Professor Stewart Turner FRS

Stewart Turner made major contributions to the understanding of many basic processes in geophysical fluid dynamics, particularly in the atmosphere and oceans. His important studies of turbulent convection, entrainment in stratified flows mixing across density interfaces and double diffusive convection are widely known and applied in several areas of science and engineering. His monograph, Buoyancy Effects in Fluids, published by Cambridge University Press in 1973 (and in paperback in 1979) gives an authoritative review of this field of research.

Professor Stewart Turner FRS died on 3 July 2022.
