Research summary

I work in particle physics; this is an area where we try and understand what nature is like at the smallest distances and the highest energies - the fundamental physical laws. It also tells us about the physics which was most important in the first few moments after the big bang. Last year we discovered a HIggs boson, a quantum of the field which in the Standard Model of particle physics fills the universe, and which by interacting with fundamental particles, gives them mass.
