Research summary

The Raimondo lab investigates how the cellular and circuit level interactions between brain cells control the emergence of particular patterns of network activity which are relevant to physiological and pathological brain functioning. We attempt to utilise a ‘first principles approach’ to make predictions that can be tested experimentally. We then explore the relevance of these findings within a clinical context with the goal of informing future management of neurological disorders. We have a strong focus on mechanisms underlying diseases relevant to the African context, a particular example being the development of epilepsy secondary to neurocysticercosis.
