Keith Ridgway has made seminal contributions to advanced manufacturing technologies, including machining, water jet cutting, and manufacturing systems design. In 2000, he established the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, where he led research in manufacturing in the aerospace and nuclear sectors, trained the next generation of advanced manufacturing engineers, brought inward investment and economic growth, and informed Government policy.
In 2019, he joined the University of Strathclyde as the Executive Chair of the Advanced Forming Research Centre and established the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland, catalysing a new Manufacturing Innovation District in Glasgow. He is a member of the PM's Council for Science and Technology, Chairs Industry Wales, and a member of the Scottish Senior Leadership Group for Manufacturing.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Royal Institute of Naval Architects and the City and Guilds of London Institute. He has received many accolades, including OBE (2005), CBE (2012) and Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
