ostas Skenderis conducts research in string theory, cosmology and black holes. Fundamental questions about the origin of the cosmos and the laws of physics underlying phenomena from the very small (the physics of elementary particles) to the very big (the structure of our Universe) call for new ideas combining quantum theory with Einstein's theory of gravity.
Skenderis has worked on developing holography, a radical new idea about the nature of our Universe. In the holographic viewpoint our three-dimensional world has an underlying description in one dimension less, providing a dramatically different view of the cosmos in which one of the dimensions that we perceive in everyday life and gravity itself are both emergent phenomena.
