Kyoko Nozaki was born in Osaka, Japan, graduated from Kyoto University, and received her PhD from the same university in 1991. Since 1991, she has been a faculty member at Kyoto University, moved to The University of Tokyo in 2002, and became the first female Professor in Graduate School of Engineering in 2003 where she currently holds the position. Her research interests include the development of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts for organic and polymer synthesis/degradation targeted on effective use of unutilized carbon resources, especially focusing on deep mechanistic understandings. Her achievements were recognized as the International Awards L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Sciences in 2021, IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 2021, Medal with Purple Ribbon from the Japanese Cabinet Office in 2022, and Commendation for Science and Technology by MEXT, Japan in 2022. She has been International Honorary Member of American Arts and Sciences since 2021 and holds many committee member positions for JST and MEXT, Japan.
