Research summary

My recent research activity focused on the derivation of Gaussian non-Markovian master equations for bosonic systems that interact linearly with a bosonic heat bath. I am currently working on the extension of the previous results beyond the Gaussian ansatz (i.e. beyond the linear system-bath coupling), and to more general systems (e.g. fermionic). This result will allow to investigate the exact dynamics of a wide range of systems, that so far could be treated only approximately. Interesting examples are e.g. light harvesting complexes, phase transition in boundary driven interacting systems, optical systems with density coupling. These systems cover a crucial role for theoretical and experimental quantum information, as well as for quantum optics.

My project tackles is the following issue: I will provide a detailed theoretical description of an experimental setup for optically trapped nano particles with feedback cooling. The aim is to improve the experiment cooling mechanism, and bring its sensitivity beyond current standards.

This project is exciting because it bridges theoretical and experimental physics, and it puts together different aspects of these two disciplines. The results of this project will allow us to improve our understanding of Nature, will pave the way to further experiments, and will lead to the development of quantum technologies for sensing and metrology.
