Professor Richard Nelmes OBE FRS

Professor Nelmes retired at the end of 2010 from the University of Edinburgh, but continues some research and acts as Chairman of Edinburgh’s Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions. He is a physical crystallographer, and specialises in the structures and properties of fundamental system like elements and water at very high pressures.

For the past three years, Professor Nelmes has been the Royal Society representative on the Athena Forum.
