Research summary

My biotemplating method which I have developed for superconductor synthesis can also be applied to a suite of advanced functional materials. This rational solution to the mechanism of complex metal oxide nanoparticle growth within biopolymer matrices allows my group to grow nanoparticles and nanowires of materials previously unattainable at the nano-scale. To date we have been successful in the synthesis of nano-piezoelectric and magnetoresistive materials, with many more classes of functional materials currently being studied. My approach to functional nanoparticle design is recognized worldwide as a priority research direction and therefore our work here is addressing a pressing need.
