Stephen Fairhurst

Stephen Fairhurst is a Reader in the School of Physics and Astronomy at Cardiff University.  His research focuses on the search for gravitational waves with the advanced LIGO and Virgo detectors.  In particular, he specialises in searching for gravitational wave signals emitted by merging black holes and/or neutron stars. The observation of gravitational waves will open a new field in astronomy and allow us to investigate events, such as black hole mergers, which are invisible to traditional telescopes.
