Professor Stephen Pacala ForMemRS

Stephen Pacala has developed equations that are simple enough to be analyzed with pencil and paper and predict tree species abundances for 1000 years of succession, are used to manage forests, explain strong relationships among vegetation, ecosystem function and climate, underpin land components of multiple climate models, predict climate change tipping points, and explain the maintenance of high plant physiological diversity that affects weather and climate. He is also an effective proponent of solutions to the climate problem.
