Professor Xiaodong Chen FRS

Xiaodong Chen is a Distinguished University Professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, holding a professorship in Materials Science and Engineering along with courtesy appointments in Chemistry and Medicine. He is a visionary leader in interdisciplinary material science, renowned for his contributions to developing advanced bio-interfaced electronics that seamlessly integrate with rigid devices. His breakthroughs enable the digitization of biological senses and enhance human sensory capabilities. Notably, his innovations, ranging from water-responsive materials for nerve repair and wound healing to wearable tactile sensors with broad applications, are transforming  medical diagnostics and treatment. Moreover, he introduced the concept of mechanomaterials science to advance bio-inspired materials aimed at tackling pressing challenges in healthcare and beyond.

He has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Singapore President's Science Award, Singapore National Research Foundation (NRF) Investigatorship and NRF Fellowship, the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award, Dan Maydan Prize in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Winner of Falling Walls, and Kabiller Young Investigator. He is an elected member of the Singapore National Academy of Science, the Academy of Engineering Singapore, and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.

Furthermore, he serves on the editorial advisory boards of numerous esteemed international journals, including Advanced Materials, Chemical Reviews, Matter, CCS Chemistry, Small, and Nanoscale Horizons. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of ACS Nano, a flagship journal in nanoscience and nanotechnology.
