Yvonne is a Chartered Chemical Engineer and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts with a background in manufacturing and, upon completion of an MBA, international consultancy. She joined STEMNET in 2002, where she established the STEM Ambassadors programme, and was Chief Executive from 2005 to 2010 before becoming Chief Executive of STEM Learning from October 2010. She was an Engineering Council Trustee from 2010 to 2016 and currently sits on the National Media Museum Board and the STFC Skills and Engagement Advisory Board. She is also a governor of two secondary schools. She won the First Woman in Science award in 2015, supported by the CBI.
STEM Learning manages a range of successful programmes supporting STEM education and skills centred around the National STEM Learning Centre & Network. Alongside the provision of high-impact, subject-specific CPD for teachers of STEM subjects (provided through the National Centre at York and Science Learning Partnerships across the UK), the newly-established STEM Ambassador Hubs work with 30,000 STEM Ambassadors to increase young people’s engagement with STEM subjects and careers through engagement of schools, colleges and other groups. In addition, the Network’s eLibrary and physical centre provide teachers, STEM Ambassadors and others supporting young people in STEM with access to an unrivalled collection of quality-assured, curriculum-linked resources.
