Measuring our Future: the role of Sustainability Metrics
11th Hartley Lecture
By Professor RC Darton FREng
Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford
The need to move towards a more sustainable way of life is now widely accepted, but deciding how to bring about this sustainable future world raises the question of measurement. How much contribution will a particular plan or policy make to sustainable development? Is project X more sustainable that project Y, and is either of them acceptable? This lecture will explore the idea of Sustainability Metrics, and show how they can be used to expose, quantify and clarify the decisions facing us.
