Do we need friends?

28 May 2012 18:30 - 20:00

Café Scientifique with Professor Neil Macrae

Many animals, including humans, form bonds within their communities, but what benefits does having friends bring to us? Join Professor Neil Macrae to discuss the psychological benefits of socialising, and why we seek out friendships.

Professor Neil Macrae is a psychologist based at University of Aberdeen. His research focusses on the social brain, with an aim to understand the cognitive benefits of socialising.

Café Scientifique events aim to provide a forum for the debate of scientific ideas. Free and open for all to attend, join scientists and other specialists to explore current issues in science over a drink. Audience participation is strongly encouraged.

This event is free to attend, doors open at 5.45pm and admission is on a first come, first served basis. Food and drink will be available to purchase from 5.45pm until 7.30pm.

This event is part of a series of Café Scientifique events throughout the year.
