How could what we know about the brain influence how we learn and teach? What are the challenges and opportunities?
Sarah-Jayne Blakemore is a Royal Society University Research Fellow and Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL. Her research focuses on the development of social cognition and executive function in the typically developing adolescent brain.
Paul Howard-Jones is Reader in Neuroscience and Education at the University of Bristol. His particular area of interest is applying our understanding of cognition and neuroscience to enhance child and adult learning.
Barbara Sahakian is a Professor at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Clinical Neuropsychology. Her research is aimed at understanding the neural basis of cognitive, emotional and behavioural dysfunction in order to develop more effective pharmacological and psychological treatments.
The event is chaired by Trevor Robbins FRS who is Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge.
Sarah-Jayne Blakemore, Paul Howard-Jones and Barbara Sahakian were all members of the working group for the Royal Society policy report, Brain Waves Module 2: Neuroscience: implications for education and lifelong learning. Trevor Robbins FRS was a member of the steering group for the overall Brain Waves project.
