Supporting Disabled Students in STEM is the 2013 spring conference of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Disability Committee (STEM-DC).

STEM-DC is a cross-STEM collaborative group of professional bodies which supports practical ways to improve policies, practices and provision for disabled students.
STEM-DC will be holding its spring conference, ‘Supporting Disabled Students in STEM’ at the Royal Society on February 28th 2013. The conference will bring together those working in academia to identify solutions to barriers faced by disabled students specifically studying for careers in science, technology, engineering and maths. Through talks and workshops, attendees will have the opportunity to share expertise, learn about best practice and new technologies, and make connections with those addressing similar issues.
Workshop presentations will cover areas including:
- Transitions for Further Education students to Higher Education
- Reasonable adjustments to labs
- Access to fieldwork for disabled students
- Assistive technologies in STEM education
- Mental health awareness
- Careers advice and guidance
Registration and access
The conference is open to all those working in academia with an interest in disability provision and inclusive education. The conference will be most useful for STEM department disability officers.
There is no cost for attending this event.
The conference will feature British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation for keynote speeches, and is available on request for workshop sessions.
