Explore the wonders of the Royal Society’s Summer Science Exhibition in this adult only evening experience. This preview will give you the opportunity to interact with the exhibits and talk to the scientists as well as having access to many special events arranged for this night only. We will be hosting a night of fun and exciting activities that you can take part in. Leave the kids at home and join us for a night of twilight science.
Festival of the spoken nerd
6.30pm - 7.15pm and
7.30pm - 8.15pm
Spend your evening with this well known science comedy performance of geeky comedians, Helen Arney and Steve Mould, that make up the Festival of the Spoken Nerd, with special guest Simon Watt.
Chemistry goes live
6.30pm – 7.30pm and
8.30pm – 9.30pm
Join Dr Samantha Tang as she demonstrates some jaw-dropping chemistry that your eyes won’t believe.
Science quiz
7.30pm - 9pm
Test your scientific knowledge and have a chance at winning one set of the longlist of the 2013 Royal Society Winton Prize for Science Books for your team.
The atoms in your cocktail
8pm - 9.30pm
Learn about the science of some well known cocktails with Noel Jackson, Head of Education at Centre for Life. Alcohol will be served so this event is only appropriate for over those aged 18 or over.
Physics in the field
6pm – 10pm
Have a go yourself at some scientific experiments with these drop in sessions. Watch marshmallows expand before your very eyes or witness the amazing waterproof handkerchief.
Keep your eyes peeled for Albert Einstein, Caroline Herschel and Charles Darwin as they wander round the building. Enjoy your evening as you walk round the exhibition with a drink from our bars.
Attending this event
This night is free to attend. No tickets are required. Doors open at 6pm and seats for each event will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
This event is aimed at an adult audience, and as such is not suitable for children. Alcohol will be available for purchase and proof of age may be required.
BSL interpreters will be available throughout the evening on a first come, first served basis.
The Summer Science Exhibition will be open to all ages from 2 – 7 July, details of opening times and the other activities throughout the week are available online.
