Taking the twinkle out of your eye

20 October 2014 18:30 - 20:00

An interactive evening exploring the depths of the Universe through the lens of a space-based telescope.

In this Café Scientifique, Dr Richard Massey explained the advantages of observing planets, stars and enigmatic substances such as dark matter from outside of the Earth’s turbulent atmosphere.

The audience got to make the comparison themselves as we compared images captured from earth and space-based systems, and learnt how an experimental technology could see scientists launching new telescopes into space using giant helium balloons.
