Talk: Age proof - the new science of living a longer and healthier life

07 July 2024 16:15 - 16:45 The Royal Society Free Watch online

This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2024

Did you know that simple changes today can help us live longer and healthier lives?

Professor Rose Anne Kenny, with 35 years of experience in ageing medicine, will share insights from her pioneering research and the latest evidence. She will explain why we age and reveal that 80% of our ageing process is within our control, allowing us to not only live longer but also be happier and healthier in our later years.

In her talk, Professor Kenny will explore how factors like food, genetics, friendships, purpose, sex, exercise, and laughter influence how our cells age.

Professor Rose Anne Kenny is an award-winning physician and researcher. She is the founding Principal Investigator of Ireland's largest adult population study on the experience of ageing in Ireland - The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA).

In June 2022, Professor Kenny was the first female to be appointed Regius Professor of Physic (1637) at Trinity College Dublin. The Regius Professorship of Physic is the oldest professorship in Ireland and one of the oldest Medical Professorships in Europe (the Latin, Physic, referring to the art or practice of healing disease).

Her latest book, “Age Proof”, has been shortlisted for the 2022 Royal Society Science Book Prize.
