Sand glorious sand: the art of making rocks

06 July 2025 09:30 - 18:00 The Royal Society Free

This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2025.

Dig deep into the Earth’s past with Dr Ross Anderson (University Research Fellow) and his research group as you investigate how rocks are formed. Discover how rocks record our planet’s ancient environments from the deep sea to deserts, and how we, as geologists, can use rocks to understand our planet’s dynamic past.

Rocks open up so many questions to scientists, including: has Earth’s climate changed over the planet’s history? In which environments did life first evolve? Explore the answers to just some of these in this drop-in hands-on activity.
