Talk: The energy makeover - science, sustainability, and you

This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2025.
To tackle climate change and protect our planet, we need cleaner and smarter ways to power our lives. That means using energy from the sun, wind, and other renewable sources - but also finding better materials to store and use that energy.
Professor Magda Titirici, Chair in Sustainable Energy Materials at Imperial College London and member of the HappyMAT: bio-inspired materials main exhibit group, joins us to share her cutting-edge research in sustainable energy in solving real world problems and helping to build a better future. She will delve into the next generation of batteries that don’t rely on rare materials like lithium, ways to make hydrogen fuel from plant-based waste, and fuel cells that work without expensive metals like platinum. These breakthroughs in materials science are paving the way for cleaner, greener energy systems.
