Commonwealth

The Royal Society is the independent science academy of the UK, which draws its Fellows from across the Commonwealth. The Society and its partners support scientific collaboration across the Commonwealth through participation in a number of activities, including an informal network of Commonwealth science academies, and three Commonwealth Science Conferences (in 2014, 2017 and 2021). The most recent conference has led to two follow-up meetings in Ghana (March 2022) and the Jamaica (February 2023). The Society also hosted the launch of the Commonwealth Science Advice Network (CSAN), a knowledge exchange network focused on sharing expertise in relation to global challenges, during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2018, and in 2022 joined other Commonwealth science academies from around the globe to call on the Commonwealth Heads of Government for joint action on the interlinked challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss.

The Society also provides opportunities for cooperation between UK scientists and counterparts from other Commonwealth countries.
