My area of research has been in elucidating the role of genes in both inherited as well as sporadic disease. Diseases from the peripheral neuropathy – Charcot Marie Tooth disease - to the inherited predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer. Most recently I have been interested in how services for genetics can be provided including the extension of roles to nurses and genetic counsellors.
My career in science was made possible by the support of many people but mostly that of my husband Roy. In addition, his mother spent a year with us when I was doing my clinical house jobs and then for many summers. In addition I had a nanny for three years and a friend who collected the children from school each day and kept them until I came home in the evening.
